On 23 December 2009, according to the provisions of items 10 and 32 from annex no. 1 of the Law no. 329/2009 regarding the restructuring of some public authorities and institutions, the rationalization of public costs, the support of the business environment and the compliance with the framework agreements with the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund, related to the instructions of article 3, letter b) of the same normative act, the Romanian Agency for Energy Conservation (ARCE) subordinated to the Ministry of Economy was dissolved, following the merger by absorption by the Romanian Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE). Its activity will be reorganized within the Regulatory Department for Energy Efficiency of ANRE.

Ongoing projects of ARCE continue within the new organisation.
