E-Ster is a young Factor-4 energy services company which is focused primarily on households. 'Factor-4' refers to the concept of Ernst von Weiszacker, Hunter and Amory Lovins to use energy 4 times more efficiently than at present.
While global wealth is expected to double during the next fourty years, a Factor-4 improvement in energy efficiency would have the effect of halving world energy use at at the same time, address concerns such as climate change, geo-political tensions, and terrorist risks towards radio-active material.
The main activities of E-Ster are energy audits in existing houses, followed by a wide range of services to improve the energy efficiency of electric appliances, lighting and installations. The energy audits are based on short-term measurements of most electric appliances, and on a close inspection of the building shell, heating, and domestic hot water installations, appliances, and lighting. After the energy audit, the energy consumption of the household is followed over a two year period.
E-Ster's clients are mostly families who want to reduce their energy consumption in a cost-effective way and on a voluntary basis, without subsidies. To date (2007), over 250 energy audits in private dwellings have been carried out.
