Related to the Financial Perspectives 2007-2013, the European Commission on 25 January 2006 adopted seven thematic programmes. These are complementary to the geographical programmes also proposed by the European Commission

The Thematic Programme on Environment and sustainable management of Natural Resources, including Energy (ENRTP) was prepared on the basis of a Commission Communication (COM(2005) 324 final) on External Actions through Thematic Programmes under the Future Financial Perspectives 2007-2013.

As part of this preparation, a consultation of main stakeholders (civil society and other organisations) took place in the second half of 2005.

In order to guide the implementation of the ENRTP, a Thematic Strategy for the first phase (from 2007-2010) of the ENRTP is under preparation in 2006. The overall financial envelope for the ENRTP is 806.5 Mln €, of which 403 Mln for the first phase. A consultation with the main stakeholders on this strategy takes place from 4 to 24 September 2006 on the basis of the consultation document, and comments can be sent to Marie.loontjens@ec.europa.eu.
