Innovative financing solutions: experiences from Intelligent Energy Europe projects

In April 2014, the European Commission's Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises (EASME) organised a workshop for projects funded under the Intelligent Energy Europe II programme of the European Commission. The meeting gathered 37 participants from 25 projects, representing 12 countries in Europe. It allowed participants to share experiences on innovative financing solutions for sustainable energy investments. Invited projects are funded under the MLEI PDA and EIB-ELENA facilities and work on 'project development assistance' (PDA), as well as a few other IEE projects, that deploy innovative financing approaches.

PDA projects are run at a local or regional level with the aim to deliver investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy; IEE funding is conditioned to the launch of investments representing a leverage factor of at least 15 for MLEI PDA and 20 for EIB-ELENA.
