Energy Skill - a Vocational Training Tool is a pilot project within the Leonardo da Vinci programme. Energikontoret Halland has initiated it and the partners in the project are from Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Italy and England.
Why do we need a vocational training tool for maintenance in the residential, commercial and service sectors? First of all; nothing else has such big impact on our environment as our energy consumption and the greenhouse effect - energy management and reduction of CO2 are closely connected. Secondly 40% of the energy consumption and 50% of the electricity are used in these sectors and reduced energy consumption is constantly on the agendas. There is a need for vocational training in these sectors and according to annual reports from the Swedish Energy Agency the energy consumption could be reduced by 15% simply through better caretaking and maintenance in these sectors. In Halland that would be 630 GWh.
The aim and objective for Energy Skill is to create a vocational training tool for energy management and maintenance and environmental management in buildings. Target groups are practically all people responsible for maintenance and energy consumption.
Energy Skill will give improved vocational skill within energy management and maintenance as well as knowledge in environmental matters and ICT knowledge. The training tool will be used in the workplace and adaptable to the specific sector and level of skill in workplaces.

Professionals within maintenance are engaged in the development of the training tool. Private owners of premises and real estates and employees engaged in maintenance in Sweden and Italy answered a questionnaire that showed us, which the important parts should be. The two groups also answered that the training should not be too theoretical yet specialized in the different topics. They also pointed out the importance of advising the inhabitants/users on energy efficiency. 81% of the owners and 88% of the employees wanted to use Energy Skill.
